da mrbet: Everton and Liverpool’s rivalry isn’t much of a secret to most football supporters.
The two clubs don’t have one of the fiercest in English football but it’s not like they want to see each other success.
Unsurprisingly, the Toffees fans were seen, and most definitely heard, mocking the Reds’ failure to win the title at the weekend.
Everton fans have been filmed chanting, “You nearly won the league” and “You lost the league at Goodison Park” in the aftermath of Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Brighton on the final day, a result that sealed a second successive title for them; the latter of those chants is in reference to Liverpool’s 0-0 draw against Everton back in March.
In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…
Those who support Marco Silva’s side were also recorded watching the Citizens’ match against Brighton in the concourse away to Tottenham on the final day, instead of watching their actual team play in the flesh just metres away. Truly bonkers.
In reference to the latter of those aforementioned chants, one Evertonian took the rivalry to new heights.
A trip to Matalan, courtesy of @LesleyField5 on Twitter, saw the fan in question rejig some decorative letters to spell out the sentence: ‘Lost the league at Goodison Park.’
Shame there was no U, but a V did the trick!
It is truly ridiculous of the Toffees supporters to keep up this notion that their arch-rivals lost the league at their place back in March.
Liverpool lost just one game all season on their way to finishing just a single point behind the eventual champions, recording their best ever points tally for a single Premier League campaign in doing so.
That one defeat was in fact suffered at the Etihad back in January, a venue where City have lost just once in the league all season; realistically, that is where Jurgen Klopp’s men lost the league, not at Goodison Park.
Of course, bantering your fiercest rivals is part of the game and it’s easy to see why the fans are revelling in Liverpool’s failure.
