da spicy bet: Inconsistency has been one of the major themes of this wonderful Premier League season, unless you’re Leicester City of course.
da bet esporte: Perhaps no team within the division sum up that trait as much as Liverpool, who have been both fantastic and fragmented under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp.
Clearly, the side he inherited from Brendan Rodgers is not one you would naturally associate with the charismatic German tactician.
Preparations have already begun as the likes of Marko Grujic and Joel Matip prepare to arrive on Merseyside, though perhaps the potential departures will be as big in the shaping his squad as who could arrive.
The transfer policy employed by movers, shakers and decision makers at Anfield has thrown up its fair share of duds. As Klopp looks to put his stamp on the Reds, it’s not hard to imagine a major cull of some of his first-team stars taking place over the summer.
To truly get a foothold and mark his authority at Anfield, he will undoubtedly need to ship some of his first-team flops out in order to make room for potential arrivals.
With that in mind, here are FIVE big Liverpool names that could leave this summer…
CHRISTIAN BENTEKE
Christian Benteke is constantly having to prove himself worthy of a place in this Reds side, despite saving the team on a number of occasions.
The debate surrounding his ‘dive’ over the weekend has unfortunately taken away from his performance against Crystal Palace, where he proved the difference.
It’s not as if he has suddenly become a bad player, it’s just the towering Belgian marksman is not a man whose talents instantly scream ‘Jurgen Klopp’.
In a situation somewhat akin to Andy Carroll’s a few years ago, the former Aston Villa man could see his stint on Merseyside be a short one.
While he represents a fine option off the bench, as Klopp begins to mould his project further, the 25-year-old could be shipped out.
ALBERTO MORENO
The left-back berth has been a problem position for Liverpool for a number of years now and this season has been no different.
Young Joe Gomez did an admirable job in the role at the start of the season, though was cruelly struck down by a long term ligament injury.
Alberto Moreno is clearly not the answer. To many, many questions.
The Spaniard appears to make rash decisions as quickly as he runs at full pelt. The speedster may be a threat going forward, but his utter lack of defensive nous does not make up for his attacking enterprise.
Real Madrid were linked with a shock move for the 23-year-old earlier this season. Should Los Blancos follow up their reported interest with any sort of concrete offer, the Reds should ship the Spanish international back to La Liga as soon as they can.
JOE ALLEN
Against all odds, Joe Allen has actually proved to be a useful player under Klopp. The injury crisis that dogged the German during the early stages of his tenure afforded the ‘Welsh Xavi’ a run in the team.
While he impressed during his short stint as a starter, it is hard to imagine the former Swansea man having a long term future at Anfield.
Out of contract in the summer, he has largely been mediocre at best since his arrival from Swansea in 2012. Despite a recent upturn in form, the 25-year-old surely hasn’t done enough to earn another deal at Anfield.
DEJAN LOVREN
Very little of what Dejan Lovren has done while on the books of Liverpool Football Club suggest he is a long-term option.
The Croatian has been largely disappointing, at times downright comical, since half way into his year long Southampton career.
Granted, he has cut out some of the biggest blunders over the past few months. Or, at least stopped them from occurring on as regular a basis.
Still, surely the 26-year-old has not done enough to be considered a long-term option. While he’s more elegant on the ball than team-mate Mamadou Sakho, the Frenchman is an all round better defender and would be a safer bet to keep around.
MARIO BALOTELLI
Yes, Mario Balotelli is still on the books at Liverpool. There are so many reasons as to why the controversial Italian will not remain a Reds player after this summer, not least the fact his lack of work rate will not earn him much applause from Klopp.
An unmitigated disaster since joining from AC Milan and a symbol of the madness that largely defined the Brendan Rodgers era.
While he’s not pulling up trees back on loan at the San Siro, it’s hard to imagine him being integrated back into a Liverpool squad likely to be on an upward trajectory.
Sadly, due to the huge amounts of talent the 25-year-old boasts, his next career move has a money spinning switch to the Chinese Super League written all over it.
