da cassino online: Gerard Houllier has already made his position clear, he would like to be reunited with Michael Owen at Villa Park, the Daily Mail has quoted the new Villa boss as stating,
“He has always been in my thoughts. I like him (Owen), as a player and a man. I went to Liverpool on September 4 for Jamie Carragher’s testimonial, and I saw Michael play a half of football. He still has the legs fot it.”
Michael Owen enjoyed the prime of his career under Gerard Houllier at Liverpool, where he became one of the most feared hitmen in Europe, his crowning personal achievement coming in 2001 when he won the prestigious Ballon d’Or. Houllier is obviously keen, but would Owen also benefit from a move to Aston Villa?
Since he left Liverpool in 2004, Michael Owen has not been the same player, injuries and a relative lack of games have seen to that. Now at 30 years of age, and entering the autumn of his career, Owen will be eager to play as many games as possible, and he will retain hope that he can force his way into the England reckoning. Owen has not featured much for Manchester United, with moments such as his hat-trick against Wolfsburg in the Champions League, and a famous last minute winner against Manchester City, proving all too rare. With Javier Hernandez and Bebe added to United’s strikeline this summer, and Dimitar Berbatov in imperious form thus far, he may find playing chances even rarer this season. Owen has already issued remarks about his situation at Old Trafford this season, stating
“It sounds easy, but probably the most difficult thing is not playing for a couple of weeks and then all of a sudden getting called up and being mentally and physically right to perform well.”
A move to Aston Villa in January, might just prove to be the perfect fit, both for Owen and for Villa. He would be linking up with a manager he has had vast experience of working with before, and proven success under him. Most importantly Owen would be playing games, certainly more than he would do at Man Utd, and this is the most important thing for any player to be doing. Aston Villa are a top ten club and will hope to be challenging for European positions this season, so Owen would not have to worry about taking too big a step down.
For Aston Villa, the move would also make sense. Michael Owen when fit is still a deadly finisher and this is something any club needs. Villa themselves have struggled to find a pure goalscorer in recent years, Gabby Agbonlahor and John Carew are both effective players, but have never been able to find the net with the regularity that Owen is capable of. Aston Villa create plenty of chances for their strikers, and Owen would fit in nicely, and give them experience and another dimension up front. He would also be a great person for players like Agbonlahor and Nathan Delfouneso to learn from.
Sir Alex Ferguson has recently stated that he has no desire to see Michael Owen to leave the club (see below video), but a firm and reasonable bid would surely test the United managers’ resolve on the issue, particularly given the mooted financial pressures the club are under. In turn I think Owen would jump at the chance of joining Aston Villa, and as long as the club could get him on a decent contract, I think that he would be a great signing for Villa. If it did happen, who knows, he might even find himself in the England equation once again.
