EFL on Quest host Colin Murray has pointed the finger at Kemar Roofe after his penalty miss and all-around poor performance for Leeds on Sunday against Ipswich.
The striker’s miss meant that Leeds have now lost three of their last four league games heading into the playoffs later this month.
What’s been said then?
The Northern Irish presenter criticised the 26-year-old on Sundays’ edition of EFL on Quest.
If anyone was going to face backlash after the Whites lost to the Tractor Boys it had to be Roofe.
He had a shocking game which led to his personal goal drought stretching to 11 games.
Leeds’ top scorer is going through a barren spell at the moment, and it is hard to see where his next goal will come from.
“Kemar Roofe won’t have a worse moment this season or in the playoffs than that penalty,” said Murray as quoted by ThisisFutbol.
“It’s one of those ones that neutrals will laugh at, but for him, he’s on a really bad run. It’s been 11 games without a goal, and injuries.
“This is the last thing he needed.”
Bereft of confidence
Murray is spot on with the opinion that this penalty miss was the last thing the forward needed.
We’ve seen this plenty of times with strikers going through a goal drought and unfortunately for Leeds, his mistake on Sunday will not help matters whatsoever.
He looks lost for ideas when he has been on the pitch recently, and that is down to a lack of confidence and composure.
The striker is almost trying too hard to break his duck to the point where it is a detriment to the whole team.
He attempted seven shots on Sunday, with only one of those being on target. Roofe is often snatching at chances, and it is clear that he isn’t as happy as he was earlier in the season.
Luckily it is possible to bring his confidence back – he may still add to his 14 goals from this season in the playoffs. But Marcelo Bielsa has a considerable job on his hands to get his top scorer firing again.
