Now the Scotsman has the reins and with time ticking before the season starts, Moyes can quickly assess the team and start making valuable additions, which hopefully will stop the club from being perennial relegation fodder.

Adnan Januzaj
Initially, the 21-year-old was a revelation, but now as time goes by, his chances have become more limited and there’s a feeling that it’s time to move on.
The issue is not a lack talent, but the approach of the Belgium international. His breakthrough season, when he starred under David Moyes in that ill-fated 2013-14 campaign, offered no hint of the questionable attitude that has since stunted his progress.
The view at the club among the coaching staff and in the dressing room is that Januzaj’s drift to the fringes may end in him wasting his chance at Old Trafford. Moyes handed him a first Premier League start, which was against Sunderland.
United won 2-1 and Januzaj scored both goals. By the time Moyes’ team travelled to Chelsea the following January, Januzaj was established in the XI and Mourinho, then in charge at Stamford Bridge, was saying: “He’s a fantastic player. He is not 18 – he is 25.
“He is so mature and comfortable. A very good and important player.” However with next season’s shirt number now 15 instead 11, a decline is imminent, so a career rejuvenation is required.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson
The 19-year-old signed a new contract with the Old Trafford club in May , but since Mourinho’s arrival, the youngster has been told that he can go out on a season long loan.
The talented left-back burst onto the scene under Louis van Gaal whilst Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young were all sidelined. The youngster didn’t travel to China due to his own fitness doubts, but the defender is usually strong, level-headed and puts in a terrific cross.
Borthwick-Jackson has all the attributes to make an extremely good defender and after impressing in games against Liverpool and Chelsea, the future seems bright, but this will only come with time and first team appearances, something, which might be a rarity this season under Jose Mourinho.
For his own development and rather than sit on the fringes, going to play regular first team football under Moyes could be just the answer for both player and club.
Ander Herrera
The 26-year-old was one of van Gaal’s first signings during his rather lamentable stint in charge of United and had a decent first season.
The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder, who cost a cool £29m in 2014, was a great prospect when he was initially signed. “Ander is a fantastic young player, with great energy and creativity,” said United assistant manager Ryan Giggs of the midfielder.
“We believe him to be one of the brightest young prospects in Spain and I am certain he will be a big hit with the United fans,” he said.
But now that Mourinho has taken over and with the disappointment of the last couple of seasons hanging over the club, the new boss wants to freshen up the squad and the Spaniard could be a casualty, but a blessing for David Moyes Sunderland.
